Today I am curious who or what inspires you to be a more creative or motivated individual. Is it someone in your life personally that you can bounce ideas off of? Is it reading a really good book? Is it going for a walk without your phone and having quality time to yourself to think and reflect?
For me personally, I am inspired by a lot of different things and people on a daily basis. Sometimes I am inspired by certain artists or music depending on my mood, fashion is something that inspires me daily to experiment with new looks and other times it's watching a makeup tutorial or a Ted Talk on YouTube. Other blogs and writers are also a constant source of inspiration for me whether it is an article on xojane, a lifestyle post on Oh, It's Lovely or a fashion post from LINABUGZ. Most importantly though, it is having friends and family in my life that are positive, smart and creative who encourage me to read books, to have an opinion that might be different than everyone else's and to write what is on my mind that motivates and inspires me to keep going daily.
So let me know in the comments who or what keeps you inspired, I am looking forward to learning a bit more about you and what keeps you motivated!
It makes me super happy that it is finally feeling like May weather wise and because of this, my sister and I decided to make some fruit Popsicle's yesterday! We cut up and used blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, watermelon and tangerines and then for the base made two with Sprite, two with regular coconut water and two with pineapple coconut water; they turned out great!! They were super fun and easy to make and are a healthier option than buying Popsicle's at the store which can be loaded with sugar. I took some pictures to show you because I think they look super cool! Enjoy!
Hello! Today I thought I would talk about my current favorite items in my wardrobe and makeup bag, I hope you enjoy!
1: MOTO Black Ripped Jamie Jeans- TOPSHOP
I got these jeans last month and I absolutely love them, I really wanted a pair of ripped black jeans and have not owned a pair of black denim since high school so I was really excited when I found these! I like that they are a high rise denim and they are so comfortable. I wear these ALL the time because they go with just about everything! If ever you are looking for a pair of ripped denim, I recommend checking out TOPSHOP, they have a HUGE selection of different colors and styles!
2. Sleeveless Ponte Jacket-TOPSHOP
As you can probably tell, I have been shopping at TOPSHOP a lot lately! This vest has quickly become one of my favorite things in my closet. I really like that it is longer and I also like that it is more of a "boyfriend" fit, but is still is tailored enough not to make you look boxy. I really like wearing this when I go out with a darker denim, a black tank and boots.
3. Iconic-House of Lashes
I am not being dramatic when I say that these have changed my life and also the way I feel about makeup. As I talked about in my December Favorites post, I am fairly new to putting on false lashes so I did some research and found out about House of Lashes and I do not think I'll buy drugstore lashes again. What I really like about this company is that even though they are based in California they ship to you on the day you order and it gets to you within a week. The Iconic lashes in particular are my favorite out of the ones that I have tried because I like that they are more dramatic but still look natural depending on what makeup I choose to wear. I cannot recommend these enough and if you are looking to try false lashes, you must try these!!!!
4. Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer-Marc Jacobs Beauty
This eyeliner is another long time favorite of mine and since purchasing this, I have not used other eyeliners. I have never been able to apply liquid eyeliner without getting frustrated and getting it ALL over my face so I have always used a pencil; what is so awesome about this eyeliner is that it is in a pencil but goes on like a liquid liner and it is super easy to do a cat eye. I haven't tried any color other than the black, but they have 25 different colors if black is not your thing!
5. Lip Gloss in Orgasm-NARS
I am pretty sure that most girls have owned this lip gloss at some point in their lives and if not, have definitely tried it. What is so great about it though is that it does not disappoint and for me has always been something that I gravitate towards when I am putting on my makeup. Don't get me wrong, I love a red lip but it is not always practical and this lip gloss literally goes with everything and will continue to be a favorite of mine!
I am looking to try some new lip glosses and lipsticks because I tend to always buy NARS lip products, what are some of your favorites?
It is hard to believe that I have been writing on my blog for a year already, this past year has flown by! I have come a long way since my first blog post and I have learned a lot about myself. This past year I have tried new things, gone on a few adventures and embraced positive situations by making changes in my life and it has been quite the ride!!
The support I have received from my family, friends and occasional stranger has been amazing; it means a lot to me that you take the time to read my ramblings and have such motivating and positive feedback about whatever I choose to write about, I appreciate it more than you know! Thank you for allowing me to have a creative outlet and for your continued support!
Like so many others, change is something that at times I have had trouble dealing with; it can be very intimidating. A lot of this has to do with my personality in general and past experiences I have had.
As many of you know, I have been really trying to do things that push me out of my comfort zone and while it is an ongoing work in progress, when I look back at the person that I was when I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish at the beginning of 2014 to the person I am today, it is funny how significantly I have changed. The girl in January 2014 was someone who was scared of the future, who didn't know what she truly wanted in a relationship because of the unhealthy nature of the one she had previously been in and someone who was terrified to experience new things in fear that she would look silly or get judged by others; since then my outlook on all of these things is different and continues to change. It is still hard at times to express these things out loud (it is MUCH easier to write about it!!), but I am finding it way more manageable to take in the changes that have happened in my life recently and to embrace the changes that I plan on making in the future because I have a much better sense of who I am and what I want.
Change does not need to be intimidating and I am looking forward to seeing what the changes in my life will be and where they take me. Just some food for thought.
Lets face it, life is hard sometimes and it can hit you down like a ton of bricks to the point where it feels impossible to get back up, but it's how you react to these situations that is important. I am a strong believer that what you put out into the universe will come back to you in someway. I have some great examples in my life where I have seen others deal with unimaginable things in a way that both inspire and motivate me to be a more positive person. There have been times in my life personally where it has been hard to be happy when shitty things happen and it is so important to have people in your life who will lift you up, not keep you down; letting go of those individuals has made a significant difference in my life. It also has a lot to do with changing your mindset and though that does not happen overnight, when you can get to a place where you know that you may not be having the best day but that it could always be worse and that it can also change in a second, life is much easier. I also think that being positive has a lot to do with being ready for good things to happen in your life and while I will not go into detail about some of those things happening in mine (at least not yet..) it really does make a difference when you invite positive energy into your life. Just some food for thought.
What are some things that you do to stay positive?
It has been a while since I have done a wish list and thought in lieu of the nicer weather we are finally getting that I would show you some of the spring fashion I am digging from ASOS at the moment!
Weekday 90s' Denim Jacket- $95.21 CAD
I really want a denim jacket this spring and I really like this one in particular. I think it would look great with a dress or paired with ripped black jeans.
Warehouse Floral Longline Jacket- $126.94 CAD
I am a huge fan of floral, as I have mentioned before and luckily for me it is still a popular trend. This jacket is awesome and would be a great spring jacket to have.
Warehouse Floral 2 In 1 Midi Dress- $179.83 CAD
I love this dress so much! I do not normally go for a midi dress but this one could be worn casually or to a more formal occasion. I also like the pattern on the skirt a lot and that you could also wear a bright shoe to add some extra color to the outfit.
French Connection Ciara Playsuit in Spray Print- $126.94 CAD
So this playsuit is a bit out of my comfort zone but I really like this, it is a similar feel to my Ted Baker dress and I really like the print on it. This is also an outfit that you can wear at night or during the day with a denim jacket or a pair of black pumps.
ASOS Dark Floral Printed Short- $63.47 CAD
I have a couple pairs of floral shorts very similar to this from Urban Outfitters but I like the colors in these shorts and you could wear them with anything. These are a great short to have for spring!
Vila Utility D-Ring Short- $55.01 CAD
I loovee these shorts and think they are a great staple short to have in your closet. I have been really into green lately and I could easily pair these with a lot of tops that I am wearing at the moment.
ASOS T-Shirt with Twist Detail in Neppy- $38.08 CAD
This is a great t-shirt for everyday wear, it is simple but has the twist detail which gives it a bit more appeal. This shirt can also be worn with anything from denim to a pencil skirt.
Ted Baker Distinguish Rose Crosshatch Across Body Bag- $209.45 CAD
It wouldn't be a wish list of mine without something a bit out of my price range and from Ted Baker. I want this bag so, so bad. I do not currently have any smaller handbags and this one would go with almost everything; a girl can dream, haha.
New Look Wide Fit Cleat Multi Strap Boots- $59.22 CAD
I have also been looking for a pair of boots similar to these, I like the slight platform and chunky heel. These would look great with a pair of skinny denim or shorts.
New Look Sooty Heeled Sandals- $59.22 CAD
I really like these shoes a lot, anyone who knows me knows that when I wear heels that it is platform or nothing. I have always really liked the look of platform shoes and I think these in particular are great. I like the detailing and I have really been liking chunky heels lately.
There is my spring wish list! What are your favorite looks for spring?
I hope that you are enjoying your weekend!
Yesterday I thought I would try making caramelized onion humus and it ended up turning out great; it was super yummy and easy to make! I could eat humus any day,any time so I will definitely be making this again and this is a great recipe to bring to a party especially if like me, you have dietary restrictions but still want to participate! If you give this a try or have made any other good humus recipes, let me know!
Here are the ingredients you will need:
For the caramelized onions:
* 1 tbsp of vegan margarine (you can also use olive oil or regular butter)
* 1 medium white onion
* 1 tbsp of brown sugar
* 1 tsp of balsamic vinegar
For the humus you will need:
* 1 can of chickpeas rinsed and drained
* 1 tbsp of natural peanut butter (or tahini paste)
* 1 clove of pressed garlic
* Lemon juice
* Sea Salt
* 1/3 cup of olive oil (I ended up using closer to 1/4 cup to get the consistency that I wanted)
1. Start off by caramelizing your onions.
*Add the margarine to a pan over medium heat.
*Add in the onions, coating them in the margarine and cook them for about 5 minutes (until they become soft and turn light brown), stirring often.
*Stir in the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar until it is mixed in with the onions and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
*Remove the onions from heat, and allow them to cool
2. To prepare the humus
*Combine the chickpeas, peanut butter, the pressed garlic, your lemon juice and the sea salt into a food processor
*Turn the food processor on and slowly start adding in the olive oil through the top chute until the mixture is creamy. Add in more olive oil if desired.
*Add in the caramelized onions (leave about a Tbsp to put on the top of your humus as well) and pulse your food processor a few times to incorporate the onions
*Place your humus in a serving dish and add the leftover onions to the top. Drizzle olive oil on top.
*Serve with veggies, crackers or pita chips and enjoy!!
Looking back on the past few years the most important lesson I have learned is that settling because it feels the most comfortable or because you feel like there is not a way out is not the answer.
It is easy to just settle in for the fear of the unknown or the thoughts that you may not find any better whatever the circumstances may be. It is also easier said than done to get out of these circumstances when you are actually in them and it is so easy to point fingers and judge when you are not personally involved. You can tell others why you feel they should get out of a relationship, find a job that makes them happy or to drop friends that don't respect them until you until you are blue in the face but I encourage you to think of a time where you have also been in a similar situation and maybe be a bit more sensitive to what is going on.
Having said all that, by being in a relationship that I kept going back to even though our core values were so completely different to the point where we could not agree on anything big or small helped teach me what I want in a relationship.
By being in a work environment where others would purposely embarrass me or try to make me feel badly to make themselves feel better or more superior to a job where I am respected and liked taught me what is and is not acceptable in a place where you should enjoy going to everyday and that sometimes speaking up is the better option.
By being in friendships where I felt like I could not be 100% myself and cared way too much about what they thought of me or by being in friendships where we had nothing in common has taught me that it is okay to let go and find other friends.
Through these experiences I have learned so much and think it is so important not to settle for less and to not bend your non-negotiable's for anybody. If you are in a relationship where one person wants something but the other does not, really think about if you are okay with either outcome, if you are not maybe that relationship is not for you. If you are at a job where you are not happy, think of a solution where you will be and speak up and say something if that does not work. If you are finding it hard to connect to the friends you are spending time with, think about what your interests or hobbies are and look for friends that enjoy the same things, they are out there. Trust me. Just some food for thought.
What are some of your non-negotiable's?
Hello Everyone! It has been a while since I did a favorites post so here were some of my favorite things in February!!
1: NARSissist Smokey Eye Compact
I have been loving this palette since I got it for Christmas. It comes with three eyeshadows ( Madrague I, Bali and Mekong) which are great together. The eyeshadow does go on quite dark so I do not wear it during the day but when I go out, I generally will put this on. It also stays on for a long time which I like because I do not need to worry about it. This palette also comes with the Wide Contour Eyeshadow Travel Brush #43 and Via Veneto Mini Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner. I have not used the brush, but I really love the eyeliner and will be buying the full size when I run out of the mini. This is a great palette for someone that is looking for darker shades to make a smokey eye and I highly recommend it.
2. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
I cannot say enough good things about this mascara, I absolutely love it and it has been a favorite of mine for quite a long time. I really like that the applicator brush is big and that it does not clump up your eyelashes which is something that really bothers me with other mascaras. I also like that the mascara itself goes on black and you do not really need more than one coat in my opinion especially if you are also putting false eyelashes on. You do need to take your time applying it because it can be a bit messy if you are in a rush but all in all this mascara is worth purchasing.
3. Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
This is a new favorite as I only bought it a week ago, but this product definitely lives up to the hype. This product lowers the temperature of your makeup which is meant to keep it in place for a longer period of time and it does a great job. It is nice that when you are wearing this, you do not need to worry about how your makeup looks when you are out and about as much. It is a bit pricey for the 4 oz bottle ($36 CAD) but totally worth it if you find that you are needing to touch up a few times during the day or when you are out.
4. Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35- Fair
This is another long time favorite of mine and I use it everyday. It is so important to wear makeup with SPF in it, especially if you burn easily like me! This is usually all I need as far as face makeup goes besides a little bit of setting powder. I like how easily it goes on and it does not leave my skin looking dewy which I like. As far as higher end BB Creams go this is a bit pricier than others you can get at Sephora
($53 CAD) but a little goes a long way; I use it everyday and I just bought a new one after 4 months. If you are looking for a new BB Cream and are willing to spend a bit more, I suggest trying this.
5. The Theory of Everything
This was such a great movie and if you have not seen it yet, you should. Everything about this movie was good from the it was acted to the score. Before seeing this movie I did not know much about Stephen Hawking's life and I found the movie really interesting. It is based on a book that Jane Hawking wrote called Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen and since watching the movie I have been reading the book as well. Anyone that knows me well knows that I can cry fairly easily and I cried all throughout this movie. It did a beautiful job of showing how ALS has not only effected Stephen Hawking, but those close to him as well. I also thought the love story between Stephen and Jane Hawking was unique and made me think if I would be as strong as Jane if I was ever put in a similar situation. It deserves all the recognition that it has been receiving and I am looking forward to buying this movie when it comes out.
Those were my monthly favorites, I am curious what were some of your beauty or just in general favorite things in February?
